Games Night 19th May

quartefacts

Four players this week and the new Quarriors! expansion Quartifacts was chosen.
MC: Red
PH: Green
PM: Blue
PN: Black
An interesting first round with 3 creatures with the cost of eight meaning that, with the exception of a solitary dragon acquired with the help of a quartifact, only four creature pools were sourced. PM started and was the first to successfully complete a quest. Glory points were acquired in a close-run way, except for PH who managed to not get many glory points at all. MC streaked into the lead with a big score round, but got knobbled at the finish line by PN, firstly by a quartefact and then by scoring the final point needed by destroying a creature on a quest.
Round two began with PH who surprised everyone by getting glory points. This could be down to a diversionary tactic employed when his elbow knocked his glass of water over. Thankfully, he knocked it away from the game. Another close race for the finish line with MC trailing way, way behind and was considering knocking his water over too. MC managed to close the gap a fair bit but it was too little, too late for PM won the photo finish. PH has yet to win this game.
All in all Quartifacts is an excellent addition to the base game, with the satisfaction of sending creatures on quests and bringing quartifacts back. The only annoyance is that without the previous expansions, some of the quartifact bonuses are useless as they refer to Locked creatures and corrupted die which we don’t have…yet.

Games Night 12th May

No PN this week, he found out about the even after the fact. Better luck next time…
SY
This week we were over at PH’s house for a change of scenery.
Kicked off with Scotland Yard. After hearing that with only 3 players, the player playing Mr. X was pretty much guaranteed to win, MC took the plunge and volunteered to be Mr. X. After leading the two hapless detectives a merry chase around the streets of London, Mr. X finished the game uncaptured. Well done MC.
It was concluded that this was a weak game, though it was conceeded that it might have been better with extra players.
Pandemic_game
Knowing how much MC dislikes cooperative board games, Pandemic broke out next.
MC was Operations Expert.
PH was the Scientist
PM was the Researcher
With MC in Asia doing his best to keep back the surge of disease, PH and PM used their role abilities to their advantage and quickly found the cure for all four diseases.
Despite an extra pandemic card being shuffled into the deck, the game was successfully and quickly concluded. MC and PM both made known their anticlimactic feelings in a very “Was that it?” way. PH stayed quiet on the subject.
MC still doesn’t like cooperative board games.
